I recently wrote an article in which I quoted an executive from the Kellogg’s Company. That executive told me that “If you aren’t innovating you’re dying”. That article started me thinking about how security guard companies use innovation to sell their services.
Like that Kellogg’s executive, I think that innovation is critical for any company looking to achieve healthy growth. Unfortunately, during many of my conversations with security guard companies I rarely hear about exciting or innovative projects. Especially ones that differentiate them from their competition or improve their quality of service.
Owning a security guard company was one of the toughest educations that I have ever received. In fact, much of who I am and what I believe today was shaped by that decade of my life. Consequently, there are some very valuable business lessons that I learned during my time with Cequr Security that I will never forget. I will be sharing 1 of the most valuable ones with you in this article – how to leverage technology.
Prior to starting Cequr, I’d spent several years training clients and colleagues on how to use various software solutions to improve business results. So coming over to the security industry, which depended very little on technology, was a bit of a culture shock to say the least. In the beginning, like many small security companies, we were singularly focused on acquiring clients. But I quickly realized that without putting the proper technology into place we would not be very successful. So over the course of about a year we embarked on a journey to find, implement, and leverage technology for 2 purposes: drive sales and drive efficiency.

At OfficerReports.com our mission is to provide our customers with easy to use tools that seamlessly bridge the gaps in communication between their security officers and their clients. We strive every day to stay true to that mission and it shows. Here are quotes from some of our customers:
“It’s everything and then some. Not only is it a great business tool, but we can sell ourselves over other companies by offering these features at no additional charge to our client or we can justify a higher bid. We are regularly pointing out maintenance issues to our customers that are related to safety or things that draw criminal activity. OfficerReports.com also allows us to filter thru reports to find people who have violated _____ rules which aids our clients in evictions. More importantly we are able to show what the most common problems are they are dealing with. I just wanted an online log. So it’s much more than I hoped for.” – Scott C.
“…Customer support has been nothing less than outstanding.” – Don S.
